New slogan for party by rahul

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008
The Congress has fastened its belt to regain lost ground in Uttar Pradesh. It has now launched a Hisaab Maango campaign against the Mayawati government, asking for an account of work done by the state government. Congress president Sonia Gandhi remained silent on the rising prices, while Rahul Gandhi unveiled the new slogan of the party, from ‘Congress’s hand is with the common man’, to ‘both the congress’s hands are for the poor’. Sonia Gandhi has said that she is ready to allow her son Rahul Gandhi to go to jail with the rest of the party workers in UP for the jail bharo campaign. ‘’I think nothing can happen in Uttar Pradesh until our workers are ready to go to jail. Are all of you ready to go to jail? If need be, Rahul will go with you when you go to jail,'’ said Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in an attempt to evoke the enthusiasm among the party workers in UP. The Congress president means business and she made that clear to party workers in Kanpur. Her target, certainly, is Mayawati and the Bahujan Samaj Party. The plan is simple. The party is to ask the state government to give an account of its work during the Hisaab Maango campaign. And then the workers are to court arrest in the jail bharo campaign, wherein, Rahul may accompany the party workers. ‘’I have a new slogan that is usually kept in my mind. I want to say that both the Congress’s hand is with the poor,'’ said Rahul Gandhi, who is the general secretary of the Congress. Conspicuously absent in the speeches was any mention of the rising prices. The Gandhis believe that leading from the front is the best way to revive the party. However, How they deliver on this promise remains to be seen. source: google news http://blogs.mindbodynsoul.com http://www.commonwealthtv.tv Tags:

‘Congress stands by Sonia’s statement’

Monday, December 10th, 2007
New Delhi, December 10: Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Monday defended Sonia Gandhi from the BJP-sponsored war of words over her controversial “Merchant of Death” remarks supposedly targeting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and said that the party stands by the UPA chairperson’s remarks. Defending Sonia Gandhi and other senior party leaders, Singhvi today said that the AICC president had not mentioned any individual whosoever during her speech at a rally in Navasari district on December 01. Singhvi made it clear that the Congress party would not deviate from its stand while adding that there was not need to overreact to the issue. The party made it clear that Sonia Gandhi’s statement was not meant to undermine any one or settle any political score with any individual. The party added that Sonia’s speech was a reflection of the voices of those being suppressed and harassed by the fundamentalist and a harsh comment on the pathetic geo-political situation of the state. Sonia had made the remarks during an election rally in Gujarat supposedly targeting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The Congress party is expected to file a reply to the EC later today even as the first phase of Gujarat State Assemble elections begins tomorrow. At the height of the election campaigning, which ended yesterday, the ruling BJP had reacted strongly over the controversial speech made by the Congress president and sought immediate action from the EC against the UPA chairperson and senior party leader Digvijay Singh for branding Narendra Modi as the “Merchant of Death”. The Congress party had been flip-flopping from its stand since the controversy irrupted. There had been some confusion over Sonia’s remarks. Initially, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal had said that the comment was targeted at Gujarat government functionaries and the like of DIG (Border) D G Vanzara, accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. However, yesterday Congress disowned Sibal’s statement and party spokesman Singhvi reiterated that those remarks were targeted at Modi. source: google newshttp://blogs.mindbodynsoul.com http://www.currentnewsaffairs.com Tags:

GOOGLE growing insanely

Sunday, March 18th, 2007
Silicon Valley, March 18. (PTI): While Google\’s phenomenal growth may by the envy of many, Microsoft Corp CEO Steve Ballmer criticised the internet company for trying to grow too fast. In a presentation at Stanford University\’s Graduate School of Business, Ballmer said Microsoft went from 24 to 75,000 people in nearly three decades, while Google had become a very large company in a fraction of that time. “They\’re trying to double in a year. I think that\’s insane, in my opinion,” Ballmer said. Microsoft, with a more managed growth, had been digesting a certain percentage of growth over many years.” “What that has allowed us to do is build up a base of capable people who can take on more capable people.” Ballmer also questioned Google\’s corporate culture of encouraging individual projects by employees. Google is known to allow its engineers devote 20 per cent of their work time to pet projects. “I don\’t really know if any one has proven that a random collection of people doing their own thing actually creates value. That doesn\’t create value, in my opinion,” he said. Playing down the efforts of Microsoft\’s fiercest rival, Ballmer described Google as a one-trick pony. “Google built one very good business. They only have one thing they do. Everything else is sort of cute,” Ballmer said. “We do a lot of things that are cute, too. I\’ll tell you about our robotics effort, for example, but that\’s not paying for me to come down to Stanford,” Ballmer said amidst huge laughs from the business students. “I like to refer to us as a two-trick pony, and that\’s rare in the history of business. Desktop software was a trick. Server was a trick. Our third trick is trying to do online, and our fourth trick is trying to do consumer electronics,” he said. Ballmer, who left the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1980 after a year to take up a job at Microsoft, said there are basically four stages in business: coming up with an idea, getting it to critical mass, milking it financially and then finding a new idea. He said, “Google is in the part of the cycle where they are milking,” acknowledging that\’s a fun stage. “That was the \’90s for us… or I would say the \’80s and \’90s.” Ballmer also noted that currently 60 per cent of the industry\’s computer engineering and programming graduates are coming from China and India. Recruiting them is getting harder because of immigration restrictions in the US. “With the current issues that there are with H-1B visas there\’s even more pressure,” Ballmer said. The H-1B visa gives its holder permission to work on a temporary basis in the US in a specialty occupation. Universal News http://blogs.mindbodynsoul.com

Shilpa Shetty to be star attraction at Commonwealth day

Sunday, March 11th, 2007
London, March 11 (PTI) Indian actress Shilpa Shetty will be a star attraction at the Commonwealth Day celebrations in the British capital tomorrow where Queen Elizabeth II, Prime Minister Tony Blair and representatives of more than 50 Commonwealth nations are expected to participate.
At the celebrations, Shetty, winner of the Celebrity Big Brother TV show recently, will give a “personal testimony” in which she will talk about her experience of coping with ethnic differences.
It caps a meteoric rise for Shetty that is matched only by the plummet from favour of Jade Goody, the Big Brother contestant who racially abused her on the Channel 4 show. Although Shetty, who is arriving here today, used to be better known for her sensual dancing than her political theorising, she now finds herself a sought-after ambassador for courtesy and tolerance. After winning the reality TV show, she had visited the House of Commons and had a meeting with the Prime Minister and members of his cabinet. Apart from the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, she will have in her audience Tory leader David Cameron and Liberal Democrats leader Sir Menzies Campbell. In her speech, Shetty will talk about her childhood in Mumbai and her awareness of the vastness of India with its “incredible diversity”. A pre-recorded message by the Queen will be broadcast to the congregation and all over the Commonwealth. In the message, she is expected to emphasise the need for people to respect and understand each other better. The Queen will call on the Commonwealth to “find our diversity a cause for celebration and a source of strength and unity.” PTI

World’s smallest country with sea view - FOR SALE

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007
LONDON, Jan 8 (Reuters Life!) - For sale: the world’s smallest country with its own flag, stamps, currency and passports. Apply to Prince Michael of Sealand if you want to run your own nation, even if it is just a wartime fort perched on two concrete towers in the North Sea. Built in World War Two as an anti-aircraft base to repel German bombers, the derelict platform was taken over 40 years ago by retired army major Paddy Roy Bates who went to live there with his family. He declared the platform, perched seven miles off the east coast of England and just outside Britain’s territorial waters, to be the principality of Sealand. The self-styled Prince Roy adopted a flag, chose a national anthem and minted silver and gold coins. The family saw off an attempt by Britain’s Royal Navy to evict them and also an attempt in 1978 by a group of German and Dutch businessmen to seize Sealand by force. Roy, 85, now lives in Spain and his son Michael told BBC Radio on Monday his family had been approached by estate agents with clients “who wanted a bit more than a bit of real estate, they wanted autonomy.” He suggested Sealand, which has eight rooms in each tower, could be a base for online gambling or offshore banking. Asked to describe the delights of living on what he described as a cross between a house and a ship, the 54-year-old said: “The neighbors are very quiet. There is a good sea view.” Apply to Prince Michael of Sealand if you want to run your own nation, even if it is just a wartime fort perched on two concrete towers in the North Sea. Pakistan welcomes Singh’s vision

Thursday, December 21st, 2006
Islamabad, Dec 21 (PTI) Pakistan today said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s vision of having a treaty of Peace, Security and Friendship with it could be considered after the two countries resolve all outstanding issues but welcomed his willingness to address all matters with an open mind.
Islamabad appreciated Singh’s statement in Amritsar yesterday welcoming “new ideas” proposed by President Pervez Musharraf to resolve the Kashmir issue which include demilitarisation and joint management of the undivided state. “He (Singh) talked about resolving the issues between the two countries with an open mind. This is part of his vision of peace to ultimately conclude a treaty,” Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said a day after the Prime Minister offered the treaty. “Off course, the treaty can be considered in future when we have required atmosphere and when we reach that stage,” she said. When asked when that stage can be reached, she replied when the two countries resolve all “outstanding issues” between them. Reaching out to Pakistan with his “vision” of Indo-Pak ties, Singh offered the bilateral treaty of Peace, Security and Friendship which would be an instrument for enduring peace and prosperity. On the Prime Minister’s remarks welcoming Musharraf’s ideas for resolving Kashmir, Aslam said “we see it as a positive response to the initiatives of the President (Musharraf) who always emphasised the need for reciprocal flexibility”. She noted that Singh “talked about discussing issues with an open mind and he has welcomed the ideas by our President and he has talked about vision of peace. This is very positive from our point of view.” PTIsource PTI. http://blogs.mindbodynsoul.com http://www.mindbodynsoul.com

India, Pak to hold talks on Sir Creek

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006
Islamabad, Dec 20 (PTI) Indian and Pakistani hydrographers would hold three-day talks beginning here Thursday to finalise modalities for conducting a joint survey of the Sir Creek area to enable the two countries demarcate the maritime zone. An Indian delegation headed by Chief Naval Hydrographer, Rear Admiral, B R Rao would arrive here tomorrow to hold talks with Pakistani officials to finalise modalities for the joint survey agreed during the earlier discussions. This would be the second survey to be undertaken by the two parties in the history of the 22-yearl-long dispute over the 12 mile marshy strip off the Gulf of Kutch whose determination would enable both countries to finalise their maritime economic zone. Last January, a “very useful” joint survey was held and the second survey was expected to be completed by March which could help the two sides resolve the dispute with mutual compromise. Meanwhile, President Pervez Musharraf was expected to go to New Delhi in April this year to attend the SAARC Summit. An invitation would be extended to him during the visit of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee next month. PTI

India, Pak set to release 519 prisoners by December 25

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006
K J M Varma
Islamabad, Dec 19 (PTI) India would be releasing 60 Pakistani prisoners on December 22 while Pakistan was expected to set free 459 Indian prisoners on or before December 25, as agreed during the Foreign Secretary-level talks held in New Delhi last month. India would release 60 Pakistani prisoners who have completed their prison sentences and whose nationalities have been identified by Islamabad, Indian officials here said today. They were expected to be repatriated through the Wagah border, the officials added. In all, 483 Pakistani prisoners are in Indian prisons, including 40 fishermen. Of them, India has given consular access to 253 and Pakistani officials have confirmed the nationality of 75 prisoners, out of which 60 would be released on December 22 and the rest soon after the completion of the formalities, the officials said. Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam yesterday said both the countries were on course to meet the December 25 deadline to release the prisoners set by the Foreign Secretaries during their meeting. To a query today, she said figures of the prisoners to be released were being still compiled. The officials said about 700 Indian civilian prisoners are languishing in Pakistani jails, which included 532 fishermen caught for allegedly violating the Pakistani waters. Of the 532 fishermen, the nationalities of 412 have been identified, who, India hopes, will be released on December 25. PTI
